Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend  Next Entry
Does anyone know how to delete an LJ account, but keep the entries somewhere for posterity sake? Or is that impossible? I've decided that I'm spending too much time on LJ, Facebook, etc, and would like to spend more time on IRL interaction. I thought if I gave up my account, I'd be less likely to get sucked into LJ and the 'friends-locked' posts that skew towards high drama. I still want to keep up with friends spread far and wide, but I don't want to log into LJ everyday.

Thoughts?

You can export your entries and comments on them before you delete your account, then only you could read it. But once you "delete" your account, your entries and comments are purged 30 days later. Unless you reactivate before then.

You could always disable any cookies that keep you logged in. Then you'd have to make an effort to log in and read stuff.

The support pages talk about this in some detail.

Thanks, John. I'm going to e-mail you once things settle down (currently in a grad school apps/moving to CA tunnel) because I need to let you know properly how much I wanted to be at your wedding.

I guess when it comes to LJ/Facebook time, nothing beats old-fashioned will power!
